Actress Starletta DuPois said her experience with the first performing arts camp in Gadsden is wonderful.
DuPois is in Gadsden at the Mary G. Hardin Center for Cultural Arts to assist with the production of Dion Hood's "A Bit of Broadway."
Hood, a Litchfield High School graduate, is the organizer of the camp.
DuPois is featured in her own one-woman show, "Order My Steps," and has landed roles like Ruth Younger in 1989's "A Raisin in the Sun," Savannah's (Whitney Houston's) mother in 1995's "Waiting to Exhale," Miss Patterson in 2000's "Big Momma's House," and Sister Sarah in 2002's "Friday After Next."
"It is so important that gifts you're given, you in turn give them back," she said. "I have a love for Alabama, (and) God has blessed us with this time (to) communicate passion and talent to the students."
DuPois feels that through her experience she has much to offer the arts students at the workshop.

Starletta DuPois (born July 18, 1941) is an American actress. She has appeared in more than 90 films and television shows during her career. She received a Tony Award nomination for Best Featured Actress in a Play for her performance in The Mighty Gents (1978).
Life and career
[edit]DuPois was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She graduated from University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1968, and received her M.F.A. in Theatre Arts from UCLA School of Theater, Film and Television.[2] She made her Broadway debut appearing in 1974 short-lived play What the Wine-Sellers Buy.[3] Later that year, she had minor roles in films Death Wish and The Gambler. In 1976, she starred in the Off-Broadway production of So Nice, They Named it Twice.[4]
