In January 2019, Dean realizes he can't hold Michael at bay for too long and devises the Ma'lak Box, a trap that will seal him and Michael forever. However, Sam is able to convince his brother to keep fighting and to look for another way.
On February 7, 2019, Dean finds an artifact that supposedly grants a person their deepest wish, which comes true when his father, John, is transported from 2003 to the present. Dean, Sam, Mary, and John spend a blissful day together as a family for the first time in 35 years. However, Dean is eventually forced to renounce the wish because John's presence in the future messes up the world's timelines.
Later that month, Michael once again seeks to attack Dean and his friends, only to be slain by Jack, whose Nephilim powers are far stronger. Unfortunately, this burns off Jack's soul in the process, leaving him without empathy and turning him into a shadow of his former self.

Development
Dean Winchester was created by Eric Kripke, creator and original showrunner of Supernatural, when he pitched a show to The WB about two brothers who investigate the supernatural.[1] Dean's name is a homage to Dean Moriarty in Jack Kerouac's road-trip novel On the Road,[2] tying into Kripke's concept for an Americana road-trip television series.[3] It was intended for the brothers' last name to be "Harrison" as a nod to actor Harrison Ford, as Kripke wanted Dean to have the "devil-may-care
