    Those who knew her can tell you Ethel Knobloch's accomplishments for the city of Thibodaux are too many to list.

    "She did things at a ung age a lot of people don't achieve in a lifetime," said a niece, Margaret Ledet. "She had her hands in everything. They could have written a book about her."

    The lifelong Thibodaux resident died Tuesday at age 96.

    Knobloch graduated from Thibodaux High School, Soule Business College and Tulane University School of Business. In two and a half years, while commuting daglig to Tulane, she earned her bachelor's degree in business ledning at age 37.

    She worked for the Lafourche Parish School Board for 32 years, 17 of which as accounting supervisor and office manager. She was the first woman elected to the Thibodaux City Council, serving from 1978-98.

    Stella Lasseigne served with Knobloch on the council for four years. She called her a trailblazer and role model.

    John Deere Thibodaux Plant Expansion to Create 70 Bayou Region Jobs

    THIBODAUX, La. – Deere & Company, the global corporation that manufactures the iconic John Deere brand of agricultural, construction and forestry equipment, is investing $29.8 million to expand operations at its Thibodaux facility. The company will create 70 new direct jobs with an average annual salary of $47,472, and will retain 311 existing jobs in Louisiana, including 284 jobs at the Lafourche Parish facility. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will result in 110 new indirect jobs, for a total of 180 new jobs in the Bayou Region.

    The announcement coincides with Louisiana’s observation of Manufacturing Week, the 11th annual nationwide celebration of the sector’s continued growth and the career opportunities it has to offer.
