Hyunju Lee
Born and raised in Seoul, Korea, Hyunju is a writer/director now based in London. She started writing and directing short films while studying film at the Korea National University of Arts. Her journey to becoming a storyteller started much earlier with her spending much of her childhood buried in books.
Hyunju creates modern mythology, often following characters dealing with trauma in a fantastic or surreal environment. When conceptualising a new story, she inseminates unconventional beauty and bizarre imagery into the idea and takes inspiration from the dissonance created by merging things that traditionally do not work together.
Hyunju is currently developing a number of short and feature films that she hopes to get produced over the coming years.
Hyunju’s first English short ‘Luna In The Dark’ was supported by BBC Arts and Arts Council England under the New Creatives scheme.
Represented by Eva Robinson at Sayle Screen.
