मुस्लिम साहित्य में मरियम ज़मानी बेगम के नाम से जाने जाने वाली जोधाबाई का विवाह 6 फरवरी, को मुग़ल शासक अकबर के साथ हुआ था। जोधाबाई, मुग़ल वंश के सम्राट अकबर प्रमुख पत्नियों में से एक थी जिन्होंने 3 पुत्रों को जन्म दिया था जिनका नाम मिर्ज़ा हसन, मिर्ज़ा हुसैन और सलीम था।

कौन था जहांगीर?
मिर्ज़ा हसन और मिर्ज़ा हुसैन जोधा अकबर के जुड़वाँ पुत्र थे जिनकी जन्म के कुछ दिनों बाद ही मृत्यु हो गई जबकि सलीम उनका छोटा भाई था जिसे बाद में जहांगीर के नाम से जाना गया। अकबर ने अपने बेटे जहांगीर को भी बेहद कम उम्र से ही सैन्य और साहित्य में निपुण बना दिया था। जिसके चलते जहांगीर भी अपने पिता अकबर की तरह प्रसिद्ध मुगल शासकों में से एकबन गया और कई सालों तक मुगल साम्राज्य को संभाला एवं साम्राज्य का विस्तार किया।

Set in the 16th century, the film shows the fictional[3] life and love between the Muslim Emperor Akbar of the Mughal Empire and a Hindu Princess Jodhaa Bai of Amber, and their political marriage. A. R. Rahman composed the musical score which proved to be critically and commercially successful. The film marks the second collaboration between Roshan and Rai Bachchan after Dhoom 2 ().[4]
