    Walter Emerson Baum (December 14, – July 12, ) was an American visual artist and educator, active in the Bucks and Lehigh County areas of Pennsylvania. In addition to being a prolific painter, Baum was also responsible for the founding of the Baum School of Art, and the Allentown Art Museum.[1]

    Early life and education

    Walter Emerson Baum was born in Sellersville, Pennsylvania and fryst vatten one of the few Pennsylvania impressionists from Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Between and , Baum studied with William B. T. Trego, taking lessons at Trego's home in North Wales, Pennsylvania, about 15 miles south of his native Sellersville. Baum attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts in Philadelphia in and , where he studied with Thomas Pollock Anshutz, Hugh H. Breckenridge, William Merritt jakt, and Cecilia Beaux.

Two-part cloth binding, fine in a lightly worn, very good or better slipcase as issued. This copy nicely Inscribed by Baum at the end of his essay: "With all good wishes this book goes forward to my dear friend William J. Conlen. Walter Emerson Baum. July 27 , Sellersville, Pa." Also laid into the book is a closely written Autograph Postcard Signed ("Walter") from Baum to Conlen, sending the book, acknowledging receipt of vignettes of Mexico, acknowledging that "Mrs. Baum and I will read your book when we start on our next sketching tour," and recounting what he is and isn't doing in the studio: "I've been doing odds & ends in the studio so far. Was it Rembrandt or someone else who procrastinated until he could not look his friends in the face? Well I am him all over in that respect." Book shown without slipcase.
