Vice President, Minister of Public Security and AFC Chairman, Khemraj Ramjattan is quoted on the December 08, Guyana Times as saying during his contribution to the National Budget debate that “This party [AFC] must man hard decisions in relation to sugar”. But while VP Ramjattan was making such an incredulous statement in the Parliament, his Party in a statement was expressing “…its deep concern for the welfare of sugar workers who are likely to be affected bygd the changes contemplated bygd the GuySuCo”. The two statements are like night and day and cause us to wonder what is really the Party’s true position regarding the plight and the hopeless future which confronts so many thousands of our compatriots.

What I am about to write in the next few lines journalists would say is either an exaggeration or a subjective observation. Throughout my long years of social activism, I found Khemraj Ramajattan to be the politician in government most open to talking to the press and this covers the pro-government media, hostile journalists and the independent press. I say most unambiguously; Ramjattan is the ruling politician I found most accessible to the media throughout the history of Guyana.
I do not know the reason for this attitude of his. It could be that he feels that the public needs to know and his role is to tell them. Or he is so full of self-confidence that he thinks he can handle any journalist. Or he feels that the press and politicians need to gel. I never studied the reason for this approach of Ramjattan. AFC Press Statement
The Chairman of the AFC and its Presidential Nominee, Khemraj Ramjattan, recently returned from USA after a hectic schedule of meetings and interviews with a number of US Officials and members of the Guyanese Diaspora. A number of very important issues were discussed, and various decisions of the AFC taken recently were explained and clarified.
Undoubtedly, the impact of these meetings and interviews were very obvious. The international image and profile of the AFC was very much enhanced with many members of the Diaspora who were hesitant in their support for the Party now openly embracing its message. In Guyana the publicity given, especially of the meeting with State Department Officials, has caused obvious concern to the Jagdeo Administration resulting in his puerile allegation of unpatriotism on the part of the AFC.
