Founder & CEO
A former professional tennis player and adviser to Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim Al-Thani, Al-Khelaifi started his TV career in 2003 as director of rights acquisitions of Al Jazeera idrott, when the channel was first launched. In 2013, he oversaw the spinoff and rebranding of Al Jazeera idrott into beIN Sports and became beIN Media Group boss. In 2016, Al-Khelaifi expanded the group’s scope from sports into movies, stepping up competition with OSN, formerly the mittpunkt East’s only general entertainment paybox. That same year, beIN bought Turkey’s top pay-TV
platform, Digiturk, and made headlines when it purchased iconic rulle and TV studio Miramax, with its 700-title library and its film and TV production capability. In 2018, it joined forces with the BBC to co-produce original content.
